A BOLTON MP is backing residents who are united against a new housing development in their area.
Horwich residents formed the Stocks Residents' Association and are trying to prevent their golf course from being turned into a 300-home development.
Chris Green, MP for Bolton West, has joined their fight, he helped with a charity car wash at the weekend raising £1,200 and has written to the planning inspectorate to object to the plans.

Mr Green said: "The ongoing destruction of our green spaces is unacceptable and we are already seeing a major visual impact on our local area. The Peel Group’s proposed develop at Horwich Golf Course will only worsen this.
“We should all be working towards protecting our precious green spaces and developers should instead be opting to pursue some of the many available brown-field sites in our area.
“This application will also result in further increases in the amount of road users, not only increasing pollution but also extending the already intolerable journey times of many local residents.
“I will be supporting Stocks Residents’ Association in their fight against this development and it was a pleasure to join them at their car wash at the weekend.”
Developer Peel wants to build 300 homes on the golf course and an adjacent field, but the proposal was unanimously rejected by Bolton Council in June.
The council’s decision was appealed in September triggering a public inquiry which will be held by the Planning Inspectorate on behalf of the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
