FIRE crews were called after a chip pan fire filled a pensioners home with smoke.
The incident happened in Lydgate Avenue, Breightmet, at around noon yesterday, and on seeing smoke and hearing a smoke alarm, neighbours, rushed to help the male occupier, believed to be in his 90s, and phoned 999.
Bolton North Fire Station watch manager Rick Henthorn said: "Residents should be aware to never leave chip pans or cooking unattended. In this case there was not much damage and the man was lucky that a neighbour ran to help."
An ambulance also attended the scene, however a North West Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
