A MAN tried to head butt a police officer as he was being arrested after smashing a window at a friend's house.

Blackburn magistrates heard Adam Luke Barrass them smeared his own blood over the walls of a police station cell which had to be taken out of commission for fear of infection.

Barrass, 25, of Maple Drive, Oswaldtwistle, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to a window belonging to Anthony Pemberton, damaging a cell belonging to Lancashire Constabulary and assaulting a police officer. He was committed on bail to Burnley Crown Court to be sentenced after the court heard the offence put him in breach of a suspended prison sentence imposed by the Crown Court for an offence of affray in November.

Gareth Price, defending, said Barrass had been doing well on his suspended sentence order until he received some bad news about his mother's health.

"He relapsed into drink and as a result there has been this blip," said Mr Price.
