THE ARREST of a glamour model for drink driving sparked a bizarre chain of events.

Blackburn magistrates heard Candice Jennifer Paul was taken to Blackburn police station after failing a roadside breathalyser in Helmshore.

Police handed her car keys to her boyfriend who got in her car and followed them to the police station.

But he was arrested at the gates where he also failed a breathalyser.

Both then failed to turn up at court on the due date and ended up being arrested and appearing from custody.

Paul, 31, of Walmsley Street, Bury, and Dominic Stephen Nolan, 36, of no fixed address, both pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and he admitted driving without insurance.

He was fined £140 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

Both were banned from driving for three years after the court was told they both had an excess alcohol conviction within the last 10 years.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said Paul was stopped in Holcombe Road at 1.50am on August 27 and failed a road side breath test.

She was taken to Greenbank Police Station.

The arresting officer realised Nolan was following and arranged for colleagues to breathalyse him as they arrived at the police station.

Ian Huggan, defending, said when his girlfriend was arrested Nolan spoke to the officer and asked if he could go with them to the police station but that was not allowed.

"The officers set off with her leaving the car keys with my client," said Mr Huggan.

"The officer who arrested Mr Nolan said his speech was slurred and his breath smelled of alcohol which makes it surprising he was left in possession of the keys."
