WHITES fans paid their respects to a key figure in the club’s history on Saturday.
Former Bolton Wanderers owner Eddie Davies died on Tuesday last week, aged 72, while on holiday in Portugal.
Little Lever-born Davies helped keep the club in the Premier League for 11 years and raised the team to heights of European football.
Under his watch iconic players such as Jay-Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff and Ivan Campo came to the club, under then-boss Sam Allardyce.
Wanderers captain David Wheater led the tributes before this weekend’s game against QPR, laying a wreath in memory of the ex-owner, while the rest of the team looked on wearing black armbands. There was also a special edition of the matchday programme made to commemorate Davies.
Fans then sang out his name as a large image of the former owner was displayed in the stadium.
After a tough week for the Whites, with a narrow escape from administration bringing into focus the financial history of the club, Davies' contributions to Bolton were laid out.
