BLACKBURN Rovers will hold a 40-second silence ahead of Saturday's match with Aston Villa to show their support for
World Suicide Prevention Day.
The club have designated the Championship fixture to help promote awareness and follows on from
Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s public vigil outside Blackburn Town Hall on Monday, which
was the international day designated to raise awareness of suicide prevention.
Prior to kick-off, Rovers will replicate the 40 seconds’ silence held at Monday’s vigil to signify the fact that one person dies of suicide every 40 seconds
– and ask supporters in the stadium to observe the tribute.
There will also be promotional messages on the big screen before the game and at half-time from the Zero Suicide Alliance.
Rovers Community Trust's National Citizen Service recruitment and graduation officer, Jade Elliott, along with two members of the NCS Youth Board that meets at Ewood Park, were part of the Rovers delegation that visited Blackburn Town Hall on Monday.
They have helped to raise money for local mental health support charities in the aftermath of losing their friend, and 2017 NCS graduate, Tiegan O'Rourke to suicide last Christmas.
