A MOTORCYCLIST who died in a crash has been described as an ‘absolute gentleman’ by his friends.

Named by friends as David Russell, the biker had been riding in Talbot Bridge Road in Bashall Eaves, towards Clitheroe, when he collided with a Peugeot Boxer van at around 12.30pm on Saturday.

The 62-year-old, from Ramsbottom, had been driving back from a social ride with friends.

Police said Mr Russell suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

Flowers and handwritten messages were left at the crash site near the junction of Clitheroe Road.

One of Mr Russell’s friends, who had visited to the scene to pay tribute, said: “David was an absolute gentleman.

“He was like having another older brother.

“I knew him since he was 18 years old and he loved his motorbikes since as far back as I can remember.”

Another friend of Mr Russell said: “He was always into motorbikes.

“He loved them and loving riding.

"He was a very kind man.

“He was a fabulous guy, he was very wise. What a loss this is.”

It is understood the driver of the van, a woman, did not suffer any major injuries.

On a handwritten card left at the scene, a tribute said: “R.I.P Dave.

“A great guy and good friend. You will be sadly missed.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Malcolm Bell, of the Lancashire Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of the motorcyclist.

"We would ask any witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage to contact us as we try to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic collision.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 714 of August 18.
