VOLUNTEERS from the National Citizen Service were collecting donations and raising awareness of Blackburn's foodbank.

The team were handing out free sweets, giving out face painting sessions, collecting food donations and highlighting the importance to keep foodbanks full.

The National Citizen Service is a personal and social development programme for young people aged 15 to 17 to take part in.

Alyssia Hambleton, 16, said her group, called 'Team Emeke' had received great feedback from passers by.

She said: "We've had lots of donations of food and we've had some really nice comments from people saying we are doing a great job."

The team's mentor, Katelyn Struthers, said: "The group have been great and worked hard.

"It is important to raise awareness about foodbanks as a lot of individuals and families rely on them."
