THE lilting strains of Franz Lehar's music of "The Merry Widow" was enjoyed when Bolton Catholic Musical and Choral Society brought the show to the stage in 1987.

The tremendous chorus numbers were described as stealing the show in the review written by Christine Roberts, which appeared in the Bolton Evening News.

Musical director Roy Dillon was described as putting an excellent orchestra together for the show, which was staged at Thornleigh Salesian College.

Judith Stamford played Valencienne and Anne Egan took the leading role as Anna Glavari.

The operetta tells the story of a rich widow and her countrymen's attempt to keep her money in the principality by finding her the right husband.

The operetta has enjoyed extraordinary international success since its 1905 premiere in Vienna and continues to be frequently revived and recorded.
