A MAN smashed his own window with a metal pole and said he would tell police his neighbours had done it.

Blackburn magistrates heard the incident came just five days after Boota Singh had appeared in court and admitted wasting police time by making false reports of crimes.

Singh, 39, of Cog Lane, Burnley, pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon, a metal pole. He was made subject to a curfew for six weeks between 9pm and 7am.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said two residents of Cog Lane reported Singh to the police at 12.20am.

He was shouting at people to come and fight him and one described him as "threatening and scary."

"He smashed his own window with the metal pole and said he was going to blame the other residents for the damage when the police arrived," said Mrs Yates.

When he was interviewed Singh claimed he didn't threaten anyone and had the weapon for show.

David Leach, defending, said his client had bought his house on Cog Lane for £20,000.

"He is the only Indian on the street and he now realises he made a big mistake buying the house," said Mr Leach.

"When he is released he is going to sell it and move as soon as possible."

Mr Leach said there had been banging on the door and Singh picked up the piece of mop handle before going out to see what was going on.
