A COURT was temporarily in lockdown after a man began shouting aggressively at a member of the court staff.
Police were called to reports of a man threatening members of the staff at Burnley Crown Court, in Hammerton Street, shortly after 2pm.
Four police officers arrived to remove the man from the court but he refused to go and shouted obscenities at the officers.
A man in his 50s was later arrested in connection with malicious communication offences, unrelated to the incident at the court.
He was taken to hospital by police before being taken to custody.
Inspector Lee Turner said: “We received a called from Burnley Crown Court, Hammerton Street, at 2.05pm.
“A man has gone into the court and started shouting aggressively at staff.
“It doesn’t appear to be someone who is a defendant.
“Due to his behaviour the staff have got everyone out of the court waiting area.”
Court cases resumed in the late afternoon.
