A CAR landed on top of a traffic light after colliding with another vehicle in Bury today.

The incident happened at the junction of George Street and Rochdale Road at about 8.45am, when police say a red Ford van ran a red light before colliding with the car, which then crashed into the traffic light, knocking it over, and landing on top of its pole.

Police say that one of the drivers fled the scene before they arrived.

A crew from Whitefield Fire Station were also called to the scene to make sure the vehicles were safe.

Both vehicles were later recovered.

It is not thought that anyone was injured in the incident.

A firefighter who attended said: "We were called to ensure there was no fuel leaking. We also had to request the highways agency to come and make sure the traffic light was safe."
