LOWERHOUSE Junior School in Burnley held a very special assembly this week as one of their brave students decided to go for the chop, cutting 18 inches off her very long 29 inch hair.

Amber Smith, 11, decided to go for the chop early at her school on Monday morning, in hopes to donate her hair to The Little Princess Trust. She also wanted to raise money for the charity which helps provide real hair wigs for children that have lost their hair sadly to cancer treatments.

During the assembly, a donation form was passed around the school while Nicola Cooke-Hayes made the crucial chop.

With encouragement from family and friends Amber managed to raise £100 from the donation forms. Mum, Erica said "Amber just wanted to help, she wanted to let the ill children she's helping look like princesses."

Amber also is raising donations through a just giving page in which she's already gained an extra £50.

Brother Connor Smith, 14 was the inspiration behind the kind gesture of his sister as he himself has grown his hair to shoulder length, which he later wants to shave off for the same charity.

His mother added: "He just has a heart of gold."
