A MOTORIST who crashed into the back of another car on a cinema car park was found to be nearly four times the drink-drive limit.

Blackburn magistrates heard Rachel Elizabeth Bates had two small children in the car who were trembling and crying as a result of the collision.

And when the driver of the second car asked Bates if she was drunk, she replied: “Yes, I’m always drunk.”

Bates, 28, of Brownhill Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol and two charges of child neglect. She was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Enza Geldard, prosecuting, said the second driver stopped at a give way sign on the Vue cinema car park and Bates ran into the back of her car.

When she spoke to Bates she was slurring her speech and made the comment about always being drunk.

The woman was standing with the children waiting for the police when Bates tried to drive off. She was stopped by a member of the cinema staff.

“One of the children said the woman had been done for drink driving before and I can confirm that in July 2016 she was banned for two years for a similar offence,” said Mrs Geldard.

Conceding that the magistrates would require a pre-sentence report, solicitor Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client was appalled by her own behaviour.
