DANCE studio organisers have told of their pride after winning a series of competition victories despite only opening six months ago.

Youngsters from Base Studios in Market Street, Little Lever, won a total of nine categories across three days of competition held at the Wythenshawe Forum and Longfield Suite, Prestwich, in May and June.

It means the group will go on to the British National Dance Championships, held in the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, in October.

Dancers from the studio competed in three general categories: Freestyle & Rock N Roll, Modern Sequence and Classical Sequence, with winners coming in age groups from six to 15.

Michael Johnson, who runs the studio alongside Sallyrose Beardall, said he was “very proud” of what his students had achieved.

He added: “They have worked really hard and what we wanted to do was just let them get there and do it.

“We knew they would do well but you can never expected to do as well as they did. We’re very proud of them.

“We are hoping for finalists and winners in the national competition now as we move forward.”

There were two winners in the Rock N Roll category as Lola Wainright was victorious in the six-10 years group and Lizzie Thorpe & Molly Maxfield won in 13-15 years.

Lola also won in Freestyle Disco while Caitlin Platt won in the 13-15 years individual category and in the pairs group, alongside Demi-Lea White.

Gracie Mowat, Meysey Corder and Lizzie Thorpe also won in Slow Dance, for the year groups 6, 9 and 13-15 respectively.

Base Studios was also able to win in the group dance category, one of the main events of the competition, with their dance routine Hostage.

As well as nine winners and 10 runners-up, the group boasted 40 finalists across all categories.

Following their positive performance, every competitor who came from the studio was able to qualify for the national championships.

Base Studios also has a location in Ringley Road, Whitefield, and will be opening a new premises in Bridgefield Street, Radcliffe, in July.
