AN MP is backing calls to rethink a ban on standing at Premier League and Championship football matches, describing it as "old fashioned and out of touch".
Bolton West MP Chris Green made the statement ahead of today's debate in Parliament.
The discussion in the House of Commons follows a petition that was signed by 112,000 people who called for an end to the standing ban in England's top two divisions.
The Conservative, whose constituency includes Bolton Wanderers' home ground the Macron Stadium, has been polling fan's views ahead of today's debate.
He said: "I know a number of football fans here in Bolton West are keen for safe standing areas to return to matches and I share their view that the current ban is old-fashioned and out of touch with what people want.
"I am mindful to support the plans for safe seating but I would be interested to hear the views of my constituents ahead of the debate. “
A survey by the Football League indicated 94 per cent of 33,000 fans want safe standing to be introduced. To share views, email chris@chris-green.org.uk.
