A LIST of buildings owned by Bolton Council will be published online, the deputy leader has confirmed.

Speaking at Wednesday’s full council meeting Cllr Ebrahim Adia confirmed the list would be published on the council website and indicate which assets are for sale or potentially suitable to be transferred into community ownership.

He was responding to a motion requesting the details be supplied to each councillor by the Conservatives John Walsh, who said the buildings were an unnecessary burden on the public purse.

However, Cllr Adia said he agreed the council should dispose of its assets “where appropriate” to generate money for investment.

But he said his party could not vote in support of the motion as it “lacked any real understanding of the nature of council assets.

He added: “It makes no commercial sense whatsoever, when planning the wider regeneration of an area to sell an asset only to buy it back at a later date, perhaps at a much higher cost to the taxpayer.”
