A FED-UP mum has called for action to tackle motorists speeding past homes.

Teresa Dabbar said she has seen motorists driving at 40mph in a 20mph zone at the bottom of Harvey Street in Oswaldtwistle.

Young men on bikes also go well over 50mph on the road during the hot weather, according to Ms Dabbar.

Ms Dabbar, whose daughter Amira, three, attends Early Start nursery at the top of Harvey Street, has now set up a petition calling for speed bumps or cameras to be installed to address the ‘insane problem’.

Ms Dabbar, of Harvey Street, said: “I’’m trying to get the council to agree to speed bumps or cameras near the entrance to St Andrew’s school near the huts on Harvey Street.

“It’s a 20mph zone at the bottom and every day without fail there are people going at easily 40mph.

“When it’s been really hot there have been young lads on bikes going up at well over 50mph.

“It’s insane considering how many families go down here daily, not to mention the amount of pedestrians with kids.”

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “We’re aware of concerns about speeding in this area, and will arrange for a speed survey to be carried out on the 30mph section of Harvey Street.

“We regularly meet with the police to discuss our approach to speeding issues, and this will help to inform the need for any further action.

“We will also arrange for a temporary Speed Indicator Display to be installed.

“These signs display the speed of vehicles with smiling or frowning faces to remind drivers of the appropriate speed for the road, and are found to be effective in reducing traffic speed.

“However, we will also discuss the issue of anti-social driving behaviour with the police and any other options which may be appropriate.”
