MORE men in Bolton will be able to take advantage of an improved prostate cancer test.

This week Prostate Cancer UK said all men should be able to access the latest diagnostic scans for the disease.

The charity said research showed an MRI scan before a biopsy can boost detection rates avoid the need for biopsies.

A spokesperson from Bolton NHS Foundation Trust said: “There is an increased acceptance of the use of MRI scanning in patients prior to biopsy, particularly in those men eligible for radical therapy.

"And with this in mind, Bolton and the GM Cancer Network are working towards implementation of these changes which will mean more men will be able to access this type of scan. Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is a member of the GM Urology Pathway Board and would adopt all changes to pathways in suspected Urological cancer, in accordance with network policy.”

Royal Bolton Hospital plans to make the MRI-led prostate cancer check available to more patients in future as part of a Greater Manchester-wide network.
