David Dunn is to leave his position as Rovers Under-23s assistant manager.

Boss Tony Mowbray announced at tonight's supporters consultation meeting that Dunn would be stepping down from his position working alongside Damien Johnson.

The pair guided Rovers Under-23s to the Premier League 2 Division Two title last season.

Dunn returned to his role within the Academy after ending the 2017/18 season working as part of the first-team.

He was promoted, alongside David Lowe, to work alongside Mowbray after he was appointed in February 2017.

Mowbray said: "He came to me two or three before the end of the season and said that it was his intention that he wanted to leave.

"I think he really enjoyed his period working with Damien, they were a very entertaining, well coached and well drilled with some very good individual players.

"I asked David to go away over the summer, reconsider and told him not to rush making a decision to walk away from football. It's all he's done all his life and when you're out of the game you sit at home, it's a long time when you've not got football to think about.

"He says that he's got a young family, he's got some business interests, his job he feels for the work he puts in and the rewards he gets for being the Under-23s assistant coach is not giving him enough back at the moment.

"He's made the decision and I'm disappointing he's going.

"I worked with both him and David Lowe in the final games of the Championship season, I didn't really know him before, just his reputation.

"He's the chirpy chappy who gets close to the lads, they have an affinity and warmth to him to his talent and ability, he still wants to join in with training and I think he will be a loss to the club.

"I'm disappointed he is going but it is his choice and I wish him all the best."

There are no plans at this point to source a replacement.

The 38-year-old had two separate spells as a Rovers player, and made 378 appearances for the club following his debut against Everton in September 1998.

He had one spell in management when he took charge at Oldham, but it lasted just three months, before returning to Rovers to work within the Academy in February 2016.
