POLICE are searching for a man who is alleged to have been involved in a conspiracy to commit murder.

Officers from Operation Challenger, which tackles serious and organised crime, say they want to speak to 27-year-old Curtis Francis, who is also known as Curtis Morgan.

Francis is known to have links throughout Bolton.

The search for Francis follows a shooting in the Castle Street area of The Haulgh last month.

In the evening of May 20 police were called to a street brawl involving up to 30 men.

A man had been shot and went to the Royal Bolton Hospital for treatment. His injuries were not life threatening.

Two hours later, at 11.30pm, police received more reports of fighting and a gun being fired into the air in Russell Street.

Crime scene investigators and members of the police tactical aid unit searched the area, including searching under vehicles and in gardens.

Residents spoke about hearing gun shots, commotion, shouting and car windows being smashed.

A person living nearby Portugal Street said: "I heard a bang, which sounded like a car crash, and saw a load of lads run up my street. Then the next thing was the police arriving."

Devon Street, off Castle Street, remained closed until 2.30pm the following day as police enquiries continued.

Speaking after the incidents DI Clark Bowers, from Bolton Police, said: "My officers found themselves dealing with two large fights where guns were used. One man is receiving treatment in hospital, thankfully his injuries are not more serious.

“We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the fighting or knows anything about what led to both incidents to get in touch as soon as possible.

“I would like to reassure the community that we are doing all that we can to establish the circumstances surrounding these incidents and find those responsible."

Anyone with any information about the incident or who knows the whereabouts of Francis is asked to contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
