FIREFIGHTERS have been tackling a large rubbish fire at a farm in Bury.
Crews were called to the blaze, which involves a large quantity of woodland, at Bentley Hall Farm, in Bentley Hall Road, Walshaw, at about 10.30am.
Five fire engines were in attendance, as well as a specialist hose lane unit and specialist air unit.
Plumes of smoke could be seen drifting across the fields, and people living in the area were asked to keep their doors and windows closed.
No one is thought to have been hurt as a result of the fire.
Firefighters remained at the scene until about 9pm.
Rob McDonagh, the station commander at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's headquarters said: "We were called at about 10.30am to a fire involving a large quantity of trees and bushes on the farmyard.
"We have had to call the hose unit up because the water supplies round here are quite scarce.
"No one has been hurt but our main concern is the electricity lines have sagged overhead because of the fire. We have called Electricity North West to come and check they are safe."
Our crews are currently dealing with a rubbish fire on Bentley Hall Road, near Tottington in Bury. If you live nearby please keep your doors and windows closed 🚒🔥
