Craig Conway says a deep affinity with the club was a key reason behind signing a new deal at Rovers.

Conway agreed a 12 month contract extension, with the option for a further 12 months, which will take his time at the club in to a fifth year.

The 33-year-old has become a popular figure at the club since joining from Cardiff City in January 2014.

And after agreeing a fresh contract, he said: “I would like to say how delighted I am to extend my stay for another year.

“The club means a lot to me and I really can’t wait to get going.

“I’m really happy that I’ll be staying for at least another 12 months.

“I’ve been here for nearly five years now and I’ve loved every minute of it. Everyone has been brilliant to me, my family is settled and I’m delighted to extend that for another year.”

Conway played a big part in the strong team spirit built up at Rovers, with boss Tony Mowbray praising his work rate and attitude.

Attitude restricted him to just 28 outings in 2017/18 as Rovers clinched promotion back to the second tier.

The two parties have been in talks over a new deal for some time, with Conway pleased to get everything signed off.

“I love being at Blackburn Rovers. I think we’ve got a great squad of lads, I enjoy coming into work every day and I really like the manager, so everything fits,” he told the club website.

“In fairness to the manager, we spoke some time ago and he said that he was hoping to do something.

“It took a little while to get it done, because we had to see what league we were going to be in and I understood that, but I was always pretty relaxed about it and I’m just glad to get it over the line and I can really look forward now to getting back into training.”
