While the Rovers players have been keeping fans up to date with their close season holidays via social media, the work has been ongoing for boss Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray enjoyed 10 days away with his family at the start of this month, but admits Rovers, and the planning for next season, were never far from his mind.

Indeed, he said any break from fielding calls from agents, or chasing up negotiations, would see Rovers fall behind in the constantly changing transfer picture.

That is why the boss says having people he trusts working alongside him makes it that much easier for him to take a break.

“It’s important to try and step away from it a little bit if you can but I’m conscious that it never stops,” the Rovers boss said on his return to Brockhall.

“If you’re not doing anything then other people are catching up

“That old adage, I always think of Phil Taylor who said that he always used to practice on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day because he knew that nobody else would be and that might give him an edge.

“You have to keep working in this industry which is why you need good staff around you so that when you do take time away the work never stops, the wheel never stops turning, and I have every confidence that when I’m not around to make the calls to the agents, or trying to persuade players, then other people are.”

Mowbray led the club to promotion back to the Championship in his first full season in charge at Ewood Park after taking charge in February 2017.

Last summer recruitment fell firmly at his feet, following the departure of former head of football and operations Paul Senior in the wake of relegation as 12 players arrived during the course of the summer window.

This time around things are much more structured, thanks to a recruitment department set up by Mowbray, which he hopes will provide greater analysis of potential targets.

Mowbray spent time away in India, during his visit to the meet the club’s owners, last month as budgets were finalised.

It is likely to be quieter on the transfer front 12 months on, with already 20 players under contract, but that doesn’t reduce the importance as Rovers head in to an increasingly competitive division of the Championship in 2018/19.

With a young family in the north east, and regularly commuting between his home and East Lancashire, the boss said of the importance of some time away: “I think just to re-charge the batteries.

“That drive every second or third day can be quite draining at times.

“It was time to spend with my family but I’m always cautious about wanting to build this team.

“As I’ve said, Veno (assistant boss Mark Venus) has been working really hard on trying to put deals together, I know Steve Waggott has been working hard as well.

“Since the season finished we’ve been to India, I’ve had 10 days away, and now I’m back working hard at it again.

“It will all come together I am sure.”
