The Lewisham East by-election is coming up this Thursday, June 14, with the eyes of the country focused on the south east London constituency.

We have asked the candidates from the five major parties their views on big talking points for the area and how they would improve lives for people living in Lewisham.

In the last of our three-part series, we asked for what local issue will they be focusing on and what their favourite movie is.

Local Issue

Janet Daby – Labour

The misery of Southeastern trains. Day-in-day-out our commuters face overcrowding, delays and cancellations. It is unacceptable. We need to end the broken franchise system, nationalise Southeastern trains and deliver a commuter service that is fit for the 21st Century.

Ross Archer – Conservative

Lewisham Labour are wasting our money on projects we don’t want – like trying to sell off land around Millwall F.C. which the Chairman of Millwall says would push the club out of Lewisham. So with your support on Thursday we can pressure the Council to drop their plans, saving our money and keeping our local club in Lewisham.

Lucy Salek – Liberal Democrats

I am passionate about helping people with mental health problems. I will work with the local council and charities, big and small, to improve access to clinical and emotional support, for example through art or exercise – recognising that there needs to be a variety of forms of support for people with mental health problems.

Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah – Green Party

It will have to be young people and mental health. The system is at breaking point and the pressure on families is increasing everyday due to the cuts. Young people who are in crisis who should be seen straight away are having to wait in some cases up to 6 months. Schools are doing their best but they are not able to cope. We have a lot of young people living in Lewisham who need a lot of support - for example we have one of the highest autism and ASD diagnosis rates in London.

David Kurten –UKIP

Millwall FC is under threat from the Labour council and offshore property developer Renewal. Plans for a compulsory purchase order on Millwall’s Community Trust land have been shelved for now, but they may be re-implemented and in a worst-case scenario, Millwall FC will be forced out of the Den. UKIP will fight Labour tooth and nail to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Favourite movie

Janet Daby – Labour

I love action films and also black and white movies and Sherlock Holmes. My favourite films are probably Hitchcock's Rebecca, and guilty pleasure probably The Long Kiss Goodnight.

Ross Archer – Conservative

It has to be the Italian Job. Any film starring Michael Cain, another South London boy, is a winner - but the Italian Job is simply a classic.

Lucy Salek – Liberal Democrats

The English Patient

Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah – Green Party

Any Sean Penn film although I loved Love Simon recently.

David Kurten – UKIP

The Shawshank Redemption
