Adam Armstrong helped England Under-21s secure their third successive Toulon Tournament title.

Aidy Boothroyd's side came from behind to beat Scotland in the semi-final and did the same against the Mexicans after Roberto Alvarado put Mexico in front inside 80 seconds.

Dael Fry drew them level and Kieran Dowell completed the turnaround before the interval as England completed a hat-trick of Toulon successes courtesy of a 2-1 scoreline.

The two nations shared a goalless draw before both progressing to the last four from Group A.

Armstrong, whose nine goals for Rovers last season earned him his first call up to the Under-21s, was on the bench for the final. He replaced Tammy Abraham with 11 minutes to go.

He had been praised by Boothroyd as being England’s star performer in the group stages, scoring in the win over Qatar and claiming an assist for Abraham’s late winner in the opening group game victory over China.

Armstrong started the semi-final win against Scotland, but as part of Boothroyd’s rotation, was left on the bench for the final.

It is a second successive tournament win for Armstrong having helped the Under-20s to World Cup glory last summer, a team which also featured another Rovers loanee, Harry Chapman.

The 21-year-old will now return to parent club Newcastle United in pre-season before a decision is made on his long-term future.
