WARNINGS have been issued following a spate of incidents involving rocks and stones being thrown at trains.

The British Transport Police recently reached out to the public after reports of incidents in the Burnley area where groups have been found throwing stones at trains and trespassing on train tracks.

The force also warned that anyone found to be partaking in the dangerous behaviour could find themselves in serious trouble.

A Spokesperson for the BTP said: "Due to recent reports of stone throwing and railway trespass we've been conducting foot and vehicle patrols in Burnley.

"Don't throw your summer away. Trespassing, throwing stones at trains and vandalising the railways are crimes with real penalties."

A fine of up to £1000 can be issued for railway trespassing.
