MORE than 200 homes will be built on two former school sites.
Burnley Council has approved plans to demolish the former Habergham and Ivy Bank schools in Burnley and build 250 houses.
The proposed development, off Kiddrow Lane, Gannow, will consist of a mix of semi-detached and three and four bedroom properties.
Objections were raised from two councillors during Thursday’s planning meeting over increased traffic congestion and the loss of green space.
Cllr Mark Payne said: “Building on green field space is a national problem.”
Despite this councillors voted in favour of the application saying the field loss would be mitigated by developer McDermott Homes' assurance they would spend £200,000 on improvements to other pitches in the area.
Others weren’t concerned of increased traffic. Cllr Marcus Johnstone said: “If you want to see somewhere gridlocked try New York or London. I can’t accept that (as a reason).”
