A MOTORWAY was closed by police at around 2.45pm yesterday (June 8) following reports of a group of teenagers who were spotted playing on the over bridge of the main road. 

THE M65 was closed off between junctions four and three (between Darwen and Riley Green) after a concerned passersby reported seeing the group of youths 'playing' on the wrong side of the bridge. 

Police officers arrived at the scene and put in place a temporary rolling road block to stop the traffic while they found the group of teenagers causing disruption. 

One youth who messing about by the motorway was soon found and spoken to by officers and the roadblock was lifted shortly afterwards.

A spokesperson for the police said: "We had a report of children messing about on the wrong side of the over bridge at Junction 4 and Junction 3 Eastbound.

“We had to put a rolling road block in place due to this.

"Lancashire Motorway patrols were on the scene with divisional officers.

"The road block which was put in place due to the youths on the over-bridge was lifted by police and a youth who had been messing about and hinging on the wrong side is now with Lancashire Police Divisional Officers."

The road fully re-opened at around 3.15pm and traffic was soon restored to normal on the motorway.
