A MAJOR roundabout and three roads have been re-opened following a serious traffic accident between a cyclist and a vehicle.
A man, thought to be in his 40s, has been taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital in a serious condition after becoming trapped following the accident.
Whitebirk roundabout, Whitebirk Road, Accrington Road and Burnley Road were all closed off by police for a number of hours this afternoon as emergency services dealt with the accident.
A spokesperson for North West Ambulance said: "We were called at around 4pm and we have two ambulances, two senior clinicians and a rapid response unit on the scene.
"A patient thought to be in his 40s was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital following the collision between a vehicle and a bicycle.
"It appears the man became trapped following the collision and has been taken to hospital in a serious condition."
Heavy delays are to be expected in the area.
