BURNLEY are set to be seeded for the Europa League second qualifying round draw.

The Clarets will discover their opponents when the draw takes place at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, on Wednesday, June 20.

The draw will take place over two days in Switzerland, with the Champions Path draw, of teams made up of Champions League preliminary and first qualifying round losers, taking place on Tuesday, June 19, and the League Path, containing the Clarets, a day later.

There will be 37 seeded teams for the League Path and while those clubs won't be confirmed until UEFA publishes the draw procedure, which is usually on the day of the draw or the day before, Burnley will be amongst them as as a result of the Football Association's coefficient over the previous five years.

According to UEFA's website, "Clubs' coefficients are determined EITHER the sum of all points won in the previous five years OR the association coefficient over the same period, WHICHEVER IS THE HIGHER (under a new system introduced for 2018/19 onwards)."

Being seeded will see Sean Dyche's side avoid an early date with European heavyweights such as Sevilla and Besiktas as well as sides who impressed in European competition last year in RB Leipzig and Atalanta.

Seven unseeded sides who will enter at the second qualifying round stage are already known, with Aberdeen a potential opponent for the Clarets in what would be a Battle of Britain.

The other 30 clubs will be first qualifying round winners.

Dyche's men could be paired with Rangers of Hibernian if the Scottish pair come through their first qualifying round assignments while there could be trips to Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland if any of the six sides from those countries come through their opening ties.

The Clarets could face lengthy away trips with Israeli side Hapoel Haifa one of the unseeded teams entering at the second qualifying round stage, as are Belarusian side Dynamo Brest.

Visits to Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are also a possibility. Keshla and Neftci Baku are the Azerbaijani representatives, while Kairat, Irtysh Pavlodar and Tobol represent Kazakhstan.

A trip to face Almaty-based Kairat could prove the biggest logistical challenge for Clarets fans, with the city 3,500 miles from Burnley and close to the Chinese border.

Should Dyche's side win their second qualifying round tie they will be seeded for the third qualifying round, avoiding the likes of Zenit St Petersburg, Braga and Feyenoord.

But Danish heavyweights Brondby and Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem would be potential opponents.

The draw for the third qualifying round is on July 23 - three days before the second qualifying round fixtures get underway - with the third round qualifiers on August 9 and August 16.

The play-off round would be the final stage for Burnley to navigate to reach the group stage but at the moment it is unknown if they will be seeded at that stage.

The draw for the play-off round is on August 6 with the fixtures taking place on August 23 and August 30.
