FIVE people have been taken to hospital with 'serious' injuries after a crash.

Emergency services were called to Colne Road, Burnley shortly after 7pm following the crash between a blue Peugeot and a silver Vauxhall.

A fires service spokesmen said one vehicle was on fire but all of the casualties, two men and three women, were out of the vehicles when crews arrived.

A fire service spokesman said: "We were called to a collision involving two vehicles.

"Five casualties were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"One car was on fire when we got there but all of casualties were out of the vehicles.

"Two have been taken to urgent care in Burnley and one has been taken to Blackburn hospital.

"The police accident and investigation team are still at the scene."
