A MIXED forecast has been predicted for the bank holiday weekend, with the Met Office warning that an inch of torrential rain could fall in just one hour in some parts of the country.

Despite a yellow weather warning remaining in place for parts of the UK, East Lancashire seems set for a scorcher of a bank holiday weekend with temperatures as high as 26 degrees expected.

While heavy rain and grey clouds covered the county for most of Friday and into Saturday morning, revellers are being warned not to put away the sun cream just yet, as rain is expected to ease away through Saturday allowing the weather to turn bright and hot.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Saturday will start cloudy with isolated heavy showers. These will ease through the morning allowing it to turn brighter and very warm, with plenty of sunshine by the afternoon. Maximum Temperature 24 °C.

"Sunday will stay mostly dry and very warm."

A few light showers may appear on Monday morning but from lunchtime onwards the day is set to be bright and breezy.
