POLICE have closed a busy road after a serious accident which saw a woman airlifted to hospital in a 'serious condition'.
Police called paramedics and the air ambulance to the junction of the A59 and A671 Burnley Road between Padiham and Whalley after an incident near Springwood car park.
A spokesperson for North West Ambulance service said: "Paramedics were called to the scene of a collision at 9.53 this morning.
"One female has been airlifted to Wythenshawe hospital in a critical condition."
A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "The A59 has been closed off by police at junction A671.
"Police and paramedics are currently on the scene."
Severe delays and heavy traffic is to be expected for the foreseeable future.
