TRADERS were delighted with their weekend’s work after the Festival of Making attracted a record crowd

The streets of Blackburn were adorned with stalls and food trucks selling a variety of goods from cakes and treats to jewellery and art, providing something for everyone.

Blackburn’s very own Moonira Hinglotwala was also on hand on Saturday to deliver a cake-decorating demonstration to the crowds.

Speaking about making one of her first public appearance since her time on BBC’s Masterchef she said: “It was so nice to be here, in my home town meeting people who have supported me over the past months.

“Every one was happy to see me there and I had home-baked cupcakes for people to decorate.

“It was a really nice day, the sun was shining and everybody was really lovely.”

Many of the traders, who came from all over the country to sell their goods, had a highly profitable weekends and are keen to return for next year’s event.

Mehtaab Waseem, from Bolton, had a sell-out weekend with her homemade cupcakes and treats at her stand located near Blackburn Bus Station, Taabi Treats.

Mehtaab, who is currently studying for a degree in hospitality at Blackburn College, brought along a selection of her cakes and treats.

She said: “It’s been a fantastic weekend- so good in fact I’d sold out of some things by Saturday afternoon. I had to rush home to make more to bring on Sunday, I wasn’t expecting that!

“It’s been a pleasure to be here and the atmosphere is great.

“It’s good to get my name out there and to have people buying my treats.

“I’ll definitely be looking at coming back to the Festival of Making if the event is held again next year.”

Sam Mahon, who owns the handcrafted clay jewellery company, Fired and Fancy, also had a fulfilling weekend.

She said: “I was here last year and I knew that I wanted to come back - we’ll be back again next year if it’s on.”

Artist Aimee Teeling was also in attendance with a section of her work.

She said: “Just to come for the atmosphere alone is nice, everyone is so lovely and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. It’s been such a great event.”
