LEIGH Miners saw their home encounter with Dudley Hill abandoned midway through the second half with the Miners 32-6 to the good.

It will be a source of intense frustration to Miners, who now await the league management decision on whether the result stands or the fixture needs to be replayed, as they had dominated.

Miners had opened with a flourish as early tries from the outstanding Frankie Halton and the equally-impressive Louis Brogan had put the hosts firmly in control and although Hill rallied briefly through Kyle Bateman’s touchdown Miners were soon back on top and scoring some fine tries.

Halton and Ward combined to put Joe Digby in just after 20 minutes to restore Miners’ two score lead and then Brad Hargreaves wrestled his way over to touch down out wide.

Adam Thomason sliced through to back up an initial break from half way and then right on half time Josh Ward finished off smartly.

The game had been pockmarked by a few unsavoury incidents to that point and following Ward’s try the referee dismissed Neil Wall for dissent to reduce the visitors to 12.

Hill did show resolve after the break and the third quarter was scoreless before a further flare up saw visiting substitutes also engage in the melee and once the dust had settled referee Jamie Barr opted to abandon the match.

This weekend the team travel to Shaw Cross.

The Alliance team went down agonisingly to a two point defeat at Haresfinch. The under-18s won a thriller at Waterhead 18-10 thanks to tries from George Croft, Callum Turner (also three goals) and Andy Badrock.
