A SURVEY has been launched to help Blackburn Cathedral secure almost £2million from the National Lottery to reveal its hidden heritage.

The survey asks people how often they visit the cathedral and why as well as asking those who have not visited what would attract them in the future.

The project will create an exhibition space for the cathedral’s treasures, which include silverware from the reigns of Elizabeth I and Charles I, as well as community, education and conference spaces.

Sharon Grayson, executive director of Blackburn Cathedral, said: “The cathedral is one of Blackburn’s most important and most-visited heritage assets and tourist attractions.

“Our Cathedral Court development, opened by The Archbishop of York in 2016, greatly enhanced our facilities for visitors and tourists and this new project would allow even more people to learn about the cathedral’s rich and fascinating history.”
