SWINDON Robins’ Nick Morris says he is in the midst of his most enjoyable period behind the handlebars of a speedway bike as he keeps himself busy this summer.

Ahead of tonight’s re-arranged fixture with Somerset Rebels, which was postponed last week after a sudden downpour an hour before the meeting was scheduled to start, Morris has had little time to rest.

Having added riding in Sweden with Rospiggarna, alongside fellow Robin Jason Doyle, to his schedule, filling in for the injured Max Fricke, Morris is having his busiest summer.

However, Morris is embracing it and with Swindon going in search of a 13th win on the bounce at the Abbey Stadium tonight, says it makes getting on a bike a lot easier.

“I was only going to have Sunday off last week before the rain-off on Thursday night,” he said.

“I have been flat out, which is good.

“It’s a complete opposite to last year and sometimes it can be a bit much with the airport trips but it’s what you have got to do and I am happy with how everything has been going this year.

“Not having those big breaks between meetings, it makes everything come a lot more naturally to you.

“You just get on the bike and you don’t think about anything and you’re so used to dropping the clutch and it makes things easier.

“When you have the big breaks, you start overthinking everything. Once you get into a routine, everything goes a lot smoother.”

By his own admission, Morris came into this season with a point to prove after being below-par for the Robins last term.

However, the Australian, who is still only 23, is exceeding all expectations this term and has proven a pivotal cog in the side’s record breaking run for the Robins.

“I think everyone was worried about me coming back this season and everyone doubted me because I had a bit of a bad year last year,” he added.

“I knew I could only be better this year.

“I learned from last year with how it went and it has certainly made me a better rider this year.

“I’m happy, everything is going the way I want it to. It’s been my best season yet and the team are flying.

“We just need to make sure we finish the season strongly now so we have that momentum for the play-offs.”
