A WOMAN who absconded from a mental health ward was found hanged at her brother’s house, an inquest heard.

Sharlene Godding, of Deepdale Road in Breightmet, was found hanging in the kitchen on Wednesday, March 1, after absconding from the Royal Bolton Hospital on Monday, February 27.

Paramedics were called to the property where she was declared dead.

An inquest into her death was opened by area coroner Alan Walsh, at Bolton Coroners Court yesterday.

Police coroner’s officer Nicola Boyes said the 27-year-old delivery driver absconded from hospital after being seen by a cleaner attempting to hang herself.

She said: “Ms Godding had a history of mental health and following a psychotic episode she was sectioned at the Royal Bolton Hospital. She was seen by a member of staff trying to hang herself.

"She absconded on February 27 and was reported to GMP as a missing person.

“Police officers called her brother although did not hear a response. We believe this was because she was scared about the police knowing where she was. He went out to work and returned home to find her hanging in the kitchen.”
