WE’RE doomed. We’ve not got a hope in hell. We’ll be relegated by Christmas.

That’s what everyone seems to be saying, even some Burnley fans after our relative inactivity in the transfer market.

Now, with an outlook like that we really are doomed to failure from the off. I’m just glad Sean Dyche has adapted a more positive attitude.

Yes, our failure to bring in a host of new signings – despite several offers being made – is disappointing.

And yes, I’d like to add a little something to our midfield now Joey Barton has decided to move on.

But whatever side is picked against Swansea has a great chance to get us off to the best start. And if they don’t, then the transfer window doesn’t shut until the end of the month.

I am sure Sean will be sharing our frustration but getting angry and whinging about it isn’t going to get us anywhere.

The arrival of John Flanagan from Liverpool could be a real masterstroke because he’ll feel he has plenty to prove at this level, while Johann Berg Gudmundsson looked good during the Euros and had a bright Turf Moor debut against Real Sociedad.

I still reckon we have a very good squad – the subtle changes to two years ago have definitely strengthened us compared to then – and in Andre Gray we have a striker I think Premier League defences will be dreading.

His form in pre-season has been superb and even against Sociedad he had chances to grab more than the late equaliser that he did.

Andre’s movement last year – not to mention his ability to find the net – was key to our success and could well prove to be key to our survival this time around. Or a title challenge?

Ok, I may be getting a little ahead of myself there but all the adverts I keep seeing about the new season are getting me a tad excited!

Our visitors to the Turf have had a bit of a mixed transfer window with the departure of Andre Ayew to West Ham and inspirational skipper Ashley Williams’ move to Everton sealed this week.

Not the ideal preparation in the week leading up to the opening game of the season so I think the playing field will be fairly even come Saturday.

I won’t be there on Saturday as I’m getting married - bad planning, I know - but I’ve got the best men and the ushers on score duty!

I’m just hoping the Clarets serve up a wedding present to remember and get that all-important first three points on the board!

I think we’ll all be a little more relaxed if we do.
