THE life of a Blackburn teacher who died of ovarian cancer was celebrated with the release of pink balloons before her funeral.
Stella Schofield, 65, of Livesey Branch Road, touched hundreds of lives, teaching maths and english across the globe with her husband Paul, 65. He said Stella wanted people to celebrate her life, not her death.
He added: "The funeral was absolutely wonderful. A lovely scene on a bright and clear day. The pink balloons were released to signify her spirit going to heaven. I chose pink because it was her favourite colour."
The couple, who ran a bed and breakfast for the last 12 years, travelled the globe teaching children for over 40 years.
More then 300 people packed Feniscowles Methodist Church afternoon and the funeral directors dressed in red, rather than black.
The Rev Nick Moxon, minister at Feniscowles Methodist Church, said Stella was a well known and respected member of the church who lived out her Christian beliefs.
