A MAN has undergone surgery after he was found in a Burnley street with serious head injuries in the early hours of the morning.

The 44-year-old, who has not been named, was found close to his home in Burnley Road, Harle Syke, after a night out.

He was discovered by a man on his way home in a taxi.

The injured man was taken to Burnley General Hospital but later transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital where he underwent surgery.

He is now recovering from his injuries.

The man was discovered lying in the floor near to Andy Jackson Hairdressers at about 4am on Sunday .Police have only just released details about the incident because the man has been too poorly to speak to officers.

Detective Constable Marc Craven, of Burnley CID, said it was not known how the man received his injuries.

He said: "He has undergone surgery and is making a steady recovery.

"We are not sure what happened, he could have been in accident, could have been assaulted or just fallen over.

"We are appealing for anybody who may have seen him especially taxi drivers and who may information to come forward."
