Peter Hunt, director of the environment department at Blackburn with Darwen Council, shaved off his beard for the first time in 36 years to raise money for charity.
He collected £400 for the East Lancashire Hospice, £265 for breast cancer care, and £200 for a toy fund run by Sure Start and JJB.
All staff in the department also donated luxury food items for hampers, which were then raffled off.
Mr Hunt said: "It has been quite a shock shaving it off, but it has soon grown back."
