KIND Salvation Army volunteers are helping improve conditions for record numbers of firefighters attending incidents.
In Lancashire last year, the Salvation Army launched a mobile canteen which was staffed by volunteers and sent to an incident involving eight or more fire engines.
The idea was to provide fighters called out on lengthy incidents with their own canteen.
The initiative had already been run in Greater Manchester and Cheshire in previous years.
And the addition of the Lancashire service meant that the Salvation Army attended a record number of incidents.
During the 2005-06 financial year, the emergency response units in the area attended 59 call-outs.
