EAST Lancashire actor Jody Latham has been cautioned by police after officers found cannabis at the star's apartment in Manchester.

Latham - who has just finished working on the fourth series of the award-winning TV comedy drama Shameless, and is regularly seen on screen as teenage father 'Lip Gallagher smoking cannabis with his brothers - was arrested on Friday on suspicion of possessing the Class C drug.

Police said the 24-year-old star had been in a car park in Salford Quays with two other men and police officers found the drug when they raided his nearby home.

Latham, originally from Barrow-ford, had been with two other people beside the NV Buildings in Salford Quays.

It is believed a gun was produced by another person when an argument erupted between them at approximately 6.45am on Friday.

The actor, who also played troubled football academy hopeful Billy Roberts in BBC1 drama The Street, was arrested with the two other men but later accepted a police caution.

Greater Manchester Police said a 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

The pair have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Latham first achieved fame by playing Lip in Channel 4's award-winning show Shameless, devised by Burnley-born writer Paul Abbott and set on the fictional Chatsworth Estate.

The police spokesman confirmed one man was cautioned for possession of cannabis and that two guns were seized during the incident.
