A WOMAN arrested after police raided her home and found heroin and amphetamine was already under a suspended sentence for drugs offences, a court was told.

Burnley magistrates heard Sharon Cole, 36, of Humphrey Street, Brierfield, was the subject of a suspended sentence from the higher court for drug supply-related offences.

She had already been committed to the crown court after earlier breaching the order and will be dealt with for the latest sentences at the same time.

The defendant, who admitted possessing heroin and amphetamine following the police raid on November 24, was given unconditional bail until December 22.

Wendy Chappell, prosecuting, told the court police searched the defendant's address and found heroin.

Cole was asked if there was anything else in the house and said there was some amphetamine in the fridge.

When she was questioned, she fully accepted possession of the drugs for personal use.

She had 13 previous convictions.

Mrs Chappell said in February, the defendant had been given a suspended prison term at the crown court for permitting premises to be used for the supply of drugs and possessing drugs with intent to supply.

In August she appeared in court for having heroin and amphetamine and had already been committed to the crown court for sentence for breaching the order.

Mark Williams, defending, said the amount of drugs found was very small and but for the suspended sentence, Cole could be dealt with by the magistrates.

The suspended sentence order included supervision and drug rehabilitation and was being reviewed regularly by the judge who imposed it.

Mr Williams added the defendant had been a drug addict for a number of years.

She had been keeping appointments for the rehabilitation programme and was working with the probation service and the community drugs team.

The solicitor added Cole had a number of issues, was dealing with them and it was taking time for her to stop using drugs.
