QUEEN Street Mill Textile Museum in Burnley is to host its Grand Christmas Fair' on Sunday.

Staff are hoping for a good response - but organisers are asking visitors not to come by car, if possible.

Lancashire Museums, which owns the historic Burnley building, has laid on extra staff for the day to help with parking near the museum, in co-operation with Kings Mill Antiques, which is also holding an Antiques Fair on the same day.

Catherine Pearson, the Acting Assistant Keeper for Queen Street Mill, said: "We hope that everything runs smoothly on the day.

"We have made every effort to ensure adequate and safe traffic flow around Queen Street, and sufficient parking, but we are hoping that most of our visitors will come from Briercliffe and the adjacent area on foot."

The museum staff have been out and about for several days publicising the event in Briercliffe and are keen to see that the museum has a successful day.

Ms Pearson said: "This event has a real community feel about it and we hope it will be the first of many exciting opportunities for people to get more involved with what we do."

More than fifty stall holders are expected to attend the fair, with a wide range of crafts represented, including candlemaking, lino-cut prints, woodturning, fudge making and hand knitted gloves.

Father Christmas will also be making a special appearance for the event.
