CELEBRATIONS were held yesterday to mark Lancashire Day.

November 27 was the date in 1295 when the king asked county representatives to form a "model parliament."

The traditional county stretches from Liverpool to Windermere.

Administrative boundaries changed in 1974, but the Friends of Real Lancashire chairman Chris Dawson, said: "Lancastrians can celebrate the fact that no legislation has ever changed the traditional county of Lancashire."

The Friends held readings of the Lancashire Proclamation at towns across the county.

The proclamation expressed pride in the Red Rose of Lancashire and paid tribute to the Queen - Duke of Lancaster.
