ROYAL Navy submarines could soon be using torpedo launchers produced by an East Lancashire company after the firm landed a multi-million pound defence contract.
The £8m deal will see Burnley-based MB Aerospace Ltd supply launch systems for the Boeing Harpoon programme, including the supply of torpedo launch systems for submarines.
The contract will add a further two to three years to the company's order book at its Burnley site at the Heasandford Industrial Estate.
MB Aerospace specialises in defence launch systems for a range of global defence contractors and is one of only three companies in Europe to have been awarded the prestigious gold supplier status.
Craig Gallagher, managing director, said: "We are delighted and it is a great opportunity for both our plants to combine their skills and engineering capability to offer a solution to one of the industry's top organisations.
Kitty Ussher, MP for Burnley and Padiham, added: "I am delighted MB Aerospace has received an order which will secure work for three years and generate work packages in Burnley."
MB Aerospace Ltd, a subsidiary of Motherwell Bridge Ltd, employs more than 110 people and specialises in the manufacture, test and assembly of defence and commercial aerospace systems and components.
MB Aerospace also has a site in Motherwell.
