THE Play Development group of volunteers in Burnley, has been given £5,640 from Grants for Growth.
The group has been running just over a year and is supported by Burnley Council's sport and play development team.
The grant will enable volunteers and young people to gain qualifications and experience The group is made up of volunteers from the Friends of Burnley Wood, Kibble Bank Community Action Group, GAP and St Catherine's community group.
Members of the groups volunteer for sessions in their area and are also involved in the Play Development group which is looking at town-wide initiatives to improve community relations and community cohesion.
Coun Roger Frost, the council's executive member for leisure and culture, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for this group and will assist in the capacity building of volunteers and young people."
Michelle Grimes, the council's play development worker, said: "The group is always on the look out for volunteers and anyone who is interested can contact me on 07980 864214."
Grants for Growth is a £1 million grant scheme offering up to £6,000 to groups in Lancashire to help people access jobs and training.
